AI VERSUS SPIRIT OF SPORTS – THE ETHICAL CONUMDRUM OF PARIS OLYMPICS

By Aryaman Keshav, Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirappalli*.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial intelligence (AI) in sports has changed the domain forever, introducing aspects to sports that were not humanly possible. This research paper aims to look at the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) AI Agenda, notably for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which are billed as the first AI-centric Olympic event. The paper critically evaluates whether the IOC’s AI Agenda is consistent with the founding ideals of Olympism as expressed in the Olympic Charter and the “Spirit of Sports,” which stresses the recognition of human endeavor and integrity. This paper investigates the ethical implications of AI deployment, with an emphasis on data privacy, possible prejudice, and the possibility of dehumanizing sports.

Keywords: Paris Olympics, Artificial Intelligence, International Olympic Committee, Spirit of sports, AI Agenda.
